A COUP TO THE NATIONAL WILL IN TUNISIA
In Tunisia, where the process called the Arab Spring began on December 18, 2010, Zeynel Abidin Ben Ali, who had been ruling Tunisia for 23 years, resigned, and popular movements spread throughout the region with a domino effect. In Tunisia, governments that derive their legitimacy from the will of the people began to come to power, and political parties with different opinions began to strive for reconciliation.
The leader of the Ennahda Movement, the current, chairperson of the parliament Rashid El Ghannouchi, shared power after the process called the Arab Spring and laid the groundwork for the establishment of democracy in Tunisia.
On the 25th of July, Tunisian Republic Day, Tunisian President Kays said he suspended the Assembly for a month, where the Ennahda Party has the majority of the deputies. Kays dissolved the government, the immunity of the deputies was lifted. He dismissed Prime Minister Hisham al-Meshish and, He declared that he had gathered the powers in his hands. After this statement, Parliament Speaker Rashid En Ghannouchi was prevented from entering the parliament by the soldiers. This is a clear coup. We strongly condemn this coup.
The coming to power of governments that derive their legitimacy from the people in the Islamic world disturbs the puppet rulers in the Middle East and the Western countries who think of their interests, and as a result, the rulers are dismissed by anti-democratic methods.
Tunisia is in danger of losing the gains it has made in the field of fundamental rights and freedoms. We stand with the Tunisian people. This coup, which suspends the activities of the Assembly, which is against the Tunisian Constitution and has no legal basis, is capable of increasing the instability in the region. We strongly condemn this coup and hope that peace and tranquility will prevail in Tunisia.
